Upgrades & Additions

[MAY 2026] After 10 years, I’m gradually moving toward retiring from hosting. But that hasn’t stopped me making changes to enhance the experience. Here’s what’s new this year:

Potable Water Available Anytime Day or Night. I don’t know why I didn’t get to this one sooner but I installed an external tap for potable water at the house, so you can now refill your water jugs anytime rather than drop them off for me to bring back to you. As before, there is still also a garden hose to refill your large washing water containers.

Storage Furniture in Yurt. A few guests have mentioned it would be useful to have something in the yurt to “put stuff” in and on. So now you will find a low wooden storage unit with a couple drawers, and adjustable shelf below, and a solid slab wood top. It doesn’t take away much floor space but should add a lot of convenience.

Two New Walking Trails. Several hundred metres of new trail have been cleared and marked in two areas:

A (blue) shortcut trail runs from the culvert just north of the pond to the Spirit Tree. The first half runs alongside the stream then cuts northeast through the larch forest to reach the Spirit Tree, which also makes a nice loop from the house and back when combined with the white trail.

The final section of the southeast (orange) loop now makes it an actual loop. This new section starts just west of the firepit area and runs south of the yurt to connect with the existing orange trail. It’s a fascinating trails section through pine plantation which I had thinned in fall 2023 and already the forest is diversifying and coming to healthy life. At the east end of this section you will walk right through a “stone wall” dating back over a hundred years when the land was cleared by the first generations of settlers.
